A very good read. I picked this up to read at the beach (how appropriate!). While it is not my typical genre, I really enjoyed it. If the intro and first chapter don't hook you, you're probably already dead. I was taken by the inner struggle of Kai, the main character. She came to realize who she was and what she was. Yet, she struggled to do what was right. Her desires were relentless in keeping that which was precious: her very soul. I won't turn this review into a spoiler alert but, suffice it to say, she accomplishes her dream but things don't turn out quite the way she anticipated (or, at least how this reader anticipated!)

Santiago has a knack for painting a colorful picture with words. She makes it seem effortless as she describes Kai and her progress through her toils. And toil, the main character does, even through her triumphs. At the end, Santiago leaves it open, leaves us guessing, and leaves us yearning for her sequel. Kai is too interesting to let it all end here.

Such an amazing book a must read. A page turner one you don't want to put down until finished.

Amazing story that takes you deep into the ocean and beyond. The imagery is so vivid you feel you are swimming right along with the main character. This should be a movie.....i need more

I've taken my time reading Kai. You can tell the time that Jessica put into this book. The characters are well developed and it has a smooth flow. If you like a deep, exciting read then look no further.
A great read, particularly if one is headed for a week at the beach or remembering the last time you went. I won't say much as I don't want to give anything away .. so just .. I enjoyed it very much and stayed up past bedtime to finish it.
Kai, the debut publication of Author, Jessica Santiago. Whether you believe in Mermaids (as I do) or just fascinated with the idea of them or you just really love a good book to read, you will love Kai. The tales of mermaids is as old as time, mythical creatures from the sea. Kai's struggle to find where she fits into this world isn't that of a typical young woman. The story of her struggle captivated me, holding me hostage taking me into the depths of the sea alongside her. Thank you Jessica, you did a beautiful job with Kai and I can't wait to read your future publications. ❤️
