I liked this book and thought it was a good read although I was a bit disturbed by it. I found I was still thinking about it a few days after I was done reading it. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing but here's why. ***SPOILER ALERT*** The main character Tawny and her sister Farah were gang raped over a week by a group of bikers who her Dad owed money - as payment for the debt. The author has several very descriptive scenes where Tawny says she orgasmed/came, whatever, as she was being passed around by these nasty dirty old men. Well Tawny feels extreme guilt that she came while being passed around and raped. The men would tell her she was a dirty whore because and how she loved every minute of it because she came with seemingly all of them when she was being raped. They told her Dad how she was a natural born whore because she orgasmed and they saw that as her enjoying the sex. ***END SPOILER*** I was horrified and disturbed by this. I think this is a personal reaction - I mean personal to me, and not every reader will feel that way. Another reason I was disturbed was how sexual she was - it surprised me after what she endured. Sometimes she was described almost like she was a nympho - although it was sex with the hero Judd. A little slow too maybe? So she's a bit of a slow oversexed nympho? Maybe she was just young not slow. I guess she was just 17/18 after all and maybe i need to remember how young she really was. Not sure exactly why but her character disturbed me. I liked her and was rooting for her .... I wanted her to have a happily ever after ... but I just can't shake my horror at the vivid images of her coming during the rapes. In any case, the book is titled Damaged and she definitely was that so I guess my squeamish reaction is my fault and I just need to deal. I still liked the book though I didn't feel it was as "deep" and emotional as the first book. I'm glad she decided to get some therapy. I might need some too because I just can get that out of my mind days after I finished the book. I still am glad I read the book and considered it worth the read.Tags : Damaged and the Knight - Kindle edition by Bijou Hunter. Damaged and the Knight edition by Bijou Hunter Romance eBooks Reviews
Watching this teenager make a cold blooded killer fall in love was part awe-inspiring and unrealistic, but it's a book so you have to be able to suspend your beliefs a bit. My only main complaint is the 2 characters seemed to have the same conversation (her feeling ugly, him not being worth her) several times, just in new ways. I felt it dragged the book down and could have actually been completed dozens of pages earlier.
But, it was nice to see all the returning players from the first book, learning more history of everyone, more world building/character introductions so we are ready for the next book. And, I always appreciate a nice epilogue that gives us a brief glimpse into the main character's (and some side ones) lives a few years down the road
I enjoyed this book better than Damaged and the beast. Even tho Farah was a nice girl with witty comments it still felt a bit dry for me she let people walk all over her and that pist me of. But this book Tawny is funny as he'll, she is so cute with her comments and she is always open and honest. This book for me help me understand Farah from book one and everything Tawny and her went through in the hands of bad people. I understood that two people went through the same horrible treatments and were damaged in totally different ways. I loved that the hero Judd the stud was so caring and understanding, even tho he screwed up in the began, I still forgave him because he had issues too. All in all it was a good story with HEA
This is the second book in the 'Damaged' series. It can be read on its own, but I would recommend reading it after Damaged and the Beast to get the most out the story. Tawny is the sister left behind in book one and her book fills in more of the story. She carries around the belief of all the lies told to her. She sees so much ugliness inside her that she wont look at herself in a mirror. Judd is almost as broken. His pain has made his life hollow. Once these two get together things begin to mend. It's not instant, its painful as both of their pasts are exposed. I like that they see beyond the mask the other is wearing and work to mend the broken parts. There a some very dark moments, but the conclusion was wonderful.
Adult read
I liked it okay and the price wasn't too bad for what you got! I felt like there was something missing, like the book needed more! If you are looking for a book where both the hero and heroine grow into themselves as stronger people, then this book is for you! I will say if you don't like the mention of a rape, then don't buy! The heroine wasn't raped in the book, but it talks about her being raped when she was younger like in her pass!
Tawny Smith would rather starve to death than face what is waiting for her if she leaves her hotel room. Her father abandoned her for a debt and it is no sweat off his back if she is the pay off. When she is rescued by Judd O'Keefe she sees something similar to the haunting emptiness she feels inside, she sees a goodness that he doesn't even recognize.
Judd is not a good man, he is the man you call when you need someone dead. He has had a life of horrific events and believes he is defective by association. Tawny believes Judd is her one, her savior, her everything. Judd believes she is to young and he doesn't do relationships. After walking away once, Judd comes back but now Tawny is protecting herself believing she is not the woman who can be by Judd's side. Judd now has to convince Tawny, she is his everything, his angel.
This was good, Tawny is seventeen in the beginning of the story about to turn eighteen. She is old in her youth, so this to me was not an issue. You definitely are on a rocky path on this one, there is so much hurt and shame on both sides that when they do come together it is filled with hope. Looking forward to more in this series.
